Need to return an item purchased online? Our goal is to make the return experience as hassle-free as possible. Check out the return process for online purchases and details about our return policy.

Shopping and returning is easy with Target.com. Most online purchases can be returned to a Target store. If you prefer to mail in your item, or if you purchased one of the few items that is not store returnable, rest assured that returns are free. Simply follow the steps below to get started.

return items to a store

If you're returning your item to a Target store, bring the item you'd like to return to Guest Services along with one of the following:
•  packing slip included with online purchase
•  credit card you used to make the purchase
•  printed receipt from Target.com’s online return center

return items by mail for free

If you’re returning your item to Target.com, visit the online return center to print the prepaid Target.com return label (see instructions below). Target pays the return shipping fees; therefore, returns are free using Target.com. However, if you choose to mail in the item without using our prepaid shipping label, the shipping expense will not be reimbursed. Original shipping and handling fees (if applicable) may be deducted from the value of your refund unless the return is a result of our error.

Visit the online return center to start your free return.

•  return an order that was placed when signed in to your Target.com account
   1. Visit the manage returns page and sign in.
   2. Select the appropriate order date & number from your account history.
   3. Follow the steps to begin your return. You will be asked to select the  reason for return and will see options for different ways to return the item.

•  return an order that was placed as a guest
   1. Visit the manage returns page.
   2. Click return item(s) you bought without signing in.   
   3. Enter following information:
      a. order number
      b. email address used to place the order
   4. Once you‘ve entered this information, follow the steps to start your return. You will be asked to choose the reason for return, and select from different ways to return the item.

•  return a gift purchased on Target.com
   1. Visit the manage returns page.
   2. Click return a gift.
   3. Enter following information:
     a.    order number
     b.    email address of the person returning the item
     c.    release ID from your packing slip
   4. Once you‘ve entered this information, follow the steps to start your return. You will be asked to choose the reason for return, and select from different ways to return the item.

Target Return Policy

Our promise to you
We promise to attempt a return on every item purchased in our stores or on Target.com by scanning your receipt or packing slip, offering receipt look-up*, or processing a non-receipted return or exchange using a valid government-issued photo ID (such as a driver’s license). Most items can be returned in your Target store as noted on the packing slip in the Return Method column. Just bring in the packing slip and the item. If you prefer or need to mail in your return, go to the online return center to follow the easy return process and print the prepaid Target.com return label.

Refund/exchange policy
Most unopened items in new condition and returned within 90 days will receive a refund or exchange. Some items have a modified return policy noted on the receipt or packing slip, the Target policy board (refund exceptions), Target.com or in the item department. This will also be displayed during the checkout process if purchased on Target.com. Items that are opened or damaged or do not have a packing slip or receipt may be denied a refund or exchange. All bundled items must be returned with all components for a full refund. Bundle components may not all have the same return policy. Please check your packing slip for details.

Refunds
The appropriate tax amount by item will be included with your refund. Original shipping and handling fees (if applicable) may be deducted from the value of your refund unless the return is a result of our error. Refunds will be issued in the same form as payment originally used for purchase except as specified below:

•  Check Purchases: Refund will be issued in the form of a Target GiftCard if the item is returned fewer than 10 days after original purchase. If it has been more than 10 days after original purchase, refund will be issued in cash.
•  Coupon Purchases: Returns of items purchased using Manufacturer’s Coupons may receive coupon value returned in the form of a Target GiftCard.
•  Discounts and Promotions: Refunded value for each item returned will be reduced to reflect the value of any free gift or discount.
•  Gift Receipts: Refund will be issued in the form of a Target GiftCard if returned to store. If returned to Target.com, refund will be issued in the form of an electronic Target GiftCard or a physical Target GiftCard.
•  PayPal Purchases: A refund will be issued in the form of cash if returned to a store. If returned to Target.com, a refund will be issued in the form of an electronic Target GiftCard or a physical Target GiftCard.
•  Third-party Gift Card Purchases: Refund will be issued back to your gift card. If you no longer have the gift card, please contact the issuing bank and ask them to reissue the card or transfer funds to a new card.

Return Exceptions
Returns and exchanges without a receipt may be limited. Other restrictions may apply.

•  All Electronics and Entertainment items must be returned within 30 days for a refund or exchange. For these items purchased between 11/1 – 12/25, the 30-day refund period will start on 12/26.
•  Target GiftCards, Target Mobile Gift Cards, and Target eGiftCards cannot be returned or redeemed for cash or credit except where required by law.

•  Open music, movies, video games, and software cannot be returned, but may be exchanged for the same title on the same or different gaming platform. Open or defective collectibles (e.g., sports cards, special-edition Barbie dolls, porcelain dolls, action figures, and die-cast cars) cannot be returned.

•  Digital music downloads cannot be returned or refunded.
• Contract cell phones purchased at a Target store must be returned/exchanged within 14 days and may be subject to early termination fees per carrier contract. Contract cell phones and carrier plans must be sold and returned by a Target Mobile Rep. Target Mobile Rep hours vary by store.

•  Holiday Items and limited-time-only collections may have modified return policies
•  REDcard debit and credit card holders will receive an extra 30 days to return nearly all items purchased with their REDcard at Target and Target.com. For additional details visit Target.com/REDcard.
•  Target stores cannot accept international returns or exchanges, including international returns and exchanges of online purchases.

*Receipt look-up: In most instances, Target stores can verify purchases made in stores and on Target.com within the last 90 days on a credit or debit card, check, or GiftCard using our Refund Look-up system.

How to return a gift:
To return gifts at a Target store, bring in the item along with the original receipt or the gift receipt. For gifts purchased on Target.com, visit our Online Returns Center to find out how to print a gift receipt and where to return your item.

Registry returns & exchanges

Target makes returns & exchanges easy.

How to return a registry gift:
To return wedding or baby registry gifts at a Target store, you can use a gift receipt or your Gift Purchase Log. Your Gift Purchase Log is a list of all the gifts your friends and family told us about at the time of purchase. You can print your Gift Purchase Log at store kiosk and use it just like a receipt—all you need is your registry password. Gift Purchase Logs are not available for College Registries at this time; a receipt, Target.com packing slip or gift receipt is required for all College Registry returns. Printing a gift receipt

As a gift giver, we strongly recommend that you include the packing slip or a gift receipt whenever you purchase a gift. Gift receipts and packing slips do not display any price information and make it easy for gift recipients to return their items if necessary.

Target.com gift receipts
Although the packing slip is always the best option, you can print a gift receipt after an order has been shipped, provided the item can be returned to a Target store.

Here’s how:

Visit our Online Returns Center.
•Select return a gift, enter the order number and release ID located on the item’s packing slip, then click Continue.
•Enter your name and email address, then click Continue.
•On the next screen choose the item you need to return.
•Enter the quantity of items you’re returning.
•Choose any reason for return from the drop-down menu.
•Click Continue.
•Select the Target in-store option and click Continue.
•The next page contains your gift receipt. You’re ready to print!

store gift receipts
Gift givers are able to obtain a gift receipt during checkout at any Target store – simply tell the cashier how many gift receipts you need. If you ever forget to ask for a gift receipt, bring in your original receipt and Guest Services can print as many as you’d like.

Gift recipients or purchases made with a Target GiftCard will follow refund policy for the item, and the refund will be returned in the form of a Target GiftCard.

For credit or debit card purchases, store team members may be able to locate the original receipt information if presented with the same card used at time of purchase.
